ALLIGATORS
The mother alligator carries her babies in her mouth to take them in and out of the water.
The marshes where alligators used to live have been drained, so they have moved into swimming pools instead.
Alligators lay their eggs in the mud and sand of the swamps where they live. The hot sun hatches them.
Mississippi alligator
Alligator mississipiensis
is estimated to have been reduced by 98% since 1960.
The oldest alligator is the American alligator which is 66 years old.
