Guerita is my much loved pet. I had just gotten married and I had never had a dog of my own. Well, I once had a poodle but it tore up my bathroom floor and my living room carpet, so we took it back to the pet shop. So, in my pursuit of finding the perfect pet, I found Guerita.
I found an ad one day in the classifieds selling female Chihuahua puppies for $80. I knew that was a great deal. So I rushed to the address on the ad. There were two white puppies, not even the size of a guinea pig, in a small brown basket. (To tell you the truth these puppies looked like mice.) I fell in love. I bought the smallest one.
She was tiny. I brought her home in a small paper towel. The next day, I took her to the vet. She weighed 8 ounces and she got all her shots.
Little did I know that Guerita was a very special puppy. A few days after I took her to the vet, she started to get seizures. She would turn very stiff and cold. She gave me many scares. We would rush to the animal hospital quite a bit with her. The vet told us ther was nothing he could do. Sometimes with dogs that have dome heads, they get a condition which makes them gets seizures. It was uncurable.
I spent days and weeks, thinking about what I was going to do. I was so heartbroken. I knew I couldnt sell her or give her away. I was just going to wait and see what would happen no matter what. "Maybe she would grow out of it...or maybe the vet was wrong.", I thought to myself. I hoped and prayed very hard for her to be well. I had wanted a puppy and I had waited for so long. I just wanted everything to be ok with her.
I guess she just grew out of it. After about two years, she is a healthy little 3 year old Chihuahua. She weighs almost 4 pounds now. Everyone loves her. We treat her as if she were a little kid sometimes.(I'm sure many of you can relate.)
Her favorite thing to do now, is sit on my mom's shoulder and play with Mateo. Despite her being spoiled rotten, she has turned out to be a really smart dog.
-She sees shoes being put on feet....she knows someone is going somewhere.
-She sees a purse being picked up...she knows its time to leave.
-She hears (certain) car keys jingle...she knows someone is going to the car.
-She hears the potato chip bag crackling sound...she runs to see who is gonna eat potato chips (of course, she rarely gets any).
-She can even hear the gears changing when one of the familiar cars are being parked outside....she waits to see who enters.
