A...SHES

A...shes to ashes, that's what he said
As they lowered my children to their earthly bed
Dust to dust, the saying goes
So simple the words, how heavy the blow.

Days change to weeks, and weeks into years
My spirit still aches, it spills over with tears
Does the ache ever leave, does the pain ever go
Only God in the heavens knows how I grieve so.

I give thanks for the time that we had here together
For the heartaches and laughter, the troubles we weathered
I know that one day we shall meet in that place
And bask in the warmth of each other's embrace.
