T..he Bonnie Lassie

T..he wee lad sat upon the stool
And watched the lass go by
She turned her head and gave a wink
That made the wee lad sigh.

He saw the twinkle in her eye
The roses in her cheeks
He saw the glint in her red hair
The promise in her smile
And told himself assuredly
For her he'd walk a mile!

The years went by the lad grew up
And as before he sat and watched
The bonnie lass come by.

Once again she gave a wink
And once again he sighed
His heart was full of love
For the lassie passing by.

He took a chance and hurried up
To catch her in her walk
The lassie slowed her pace a bit
And they began to talk.

He told her of the times he'd watched
As she had passed him by
And how his heart would skip a beat
When she would wink her eye.

The lass responded with a smile
The lad's heart jumped with glee
That was the start of their romance
For she loved him too, you see!
