Sepultura Biography

Cross The Line

This is Sepultura...no doubt the heaviest and most well-known rock band from the heart of Brazil. Sepultura was born in 1984 in the city of Belo Horizonte when brothers Max and Igor Cavalera decided to form a band after hearing bootleg copies of records by Venom, Metallica, and Voivod. Their earliest recordings, Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation were released by Cogumelo, a tiny Brazilian label, and found their way to Roadrunner's head of A&R Monte Conner who managed to sign them from New York, some 4,000 miles away. The world has watched as Sepultura has grown from a basic, yet inspired thrash metal band into the innovators of extreme music they are today. Their passion and vison have attracted many key figures from other genres to work with them... Jello Biafra (who contributed "Biotech Is Godzilla" to Chaos A.D.), Faith No More's Mike Patton, House of Pain's DJ Lethal, Korn's Jonathan Davis and renown Brazilian percussionist Carlinhos Brown (all of whom appear on Roots) just to name a few. With Roots, the story comes full circle with the band returning to Brazil and incorporating many of the musical and cultural traditions that influenced them and fueled their musical mission in their earliest years. Where Chaos A.D. left off, Roots picks up with a vision that pierces through the crime and corruption of their homeland and provides a glimpse into the heart and soul of Sepultura and Brazil.
