Butterfly Information
Family Morphidae
Overview: Family Morphidae
Family Morphidae is one of the smallest Families of butterflies I know of, containing just about 80 species. However, this Family is also one of the most well-known of the Neotropical Families, due to the shapely and brightly colored wings of it's members.
Existing largely in the rainforests, this Family has been largely sought out as rarities for many hobbyists.
Of note, the wing coloration is mainly blues and greens and shades in between, though some other color patterns are present. Also, the undersides of the wings usually have several well-developed eyespots (ocelli).
