Green Our Earth
A
tropical rain forest is a forest of tall trees in a place of
year round warmth and plenty of rainfall, usually near the
equator. Rain forest filter carbon dioxide from the air and
produce oxygen for us to breathe. There are some animals
and plants that only live in the rain forests and some that
might not have even been discovered yet. There are tropical oil,
wood, nuts and food that we get from rain forests.
Medicine is also an important thing made from the plants in
the rain forests.Rain forests are rapidly being burned and
cleared for farming and herding, at the rate of a football
field a second. Scientists believe that by the year 2000, all
the rain forests will be gone. Are we going to sit back and
watch this happen?
Some
people may think that because there are no factories
close to the town they live in, they do not have to worry
about pollution that much ... but how wrong they are! The
smoke and soot from the factories will just go up into the
clouds, where it will be carried to who - knows - where and
fall as acid rain! Another form of pollution is caused by
human litter bugs. All of us litter at least sometime in our
lives and with all the billions of people living here on the
planet, it can really pile up fast! So be a pal and help save
the earth! Start today for a cleaner tomorrow!
Wherever
you go, whatever you do, you are always
surrounded by air. Now, in this day and age, most air is
polluted. There are two types of pollutants - natural
pollution and pollution caused by people. Natural pollution
happens when dust, wind, fog and pollen blow around. One
source of man - made pollution is industry and engine
exhaust. The damage caused by air pollution is enourmous.
Flowers, vegetables, trees, cattle and buildings feel the ill
effects. In addition, pollution causes eye irritation, scratchy
throats and respiratory problems. When we breathe,
pollutants in the air may be deposited in our lungs. For this
reason, our air supply should be closely watched and
managed to assure its good quality.
The
environment is in serious trouble. The air we breathe, the
water we drink and the land that we live on are all being
destroyed. Now we must help to restore it. People feel that
what they do would not make any difference. Little things,
like planting a tree, shutting the water while you brush your
teeth and re-using bottles and plastic containers all help in
the long run. The environment is ours to take care of. So do
your part!
