The name of show is "DASH" on Nippon TV (on Channel 4 in Tokyo).In the TV show, two young budgies (each 6-month and 8-month old) will be rele sed to outdoor(!) and young staffs will try to catch them. But what if no one can catch them? What if larger birds now in breeding season, cats, dogs, or snakes may catch the budgies instead? These poor budgies may simply die because they do not know how to live in wild..... Terrific website! I was given a 6 mo old handfed Grey by my wife 3 months ago. Plato is a delight! We have much to learn. He has murmured since we got him. He now runs 9 or so word long sentences together, not just one but perhaps 3 sentences in a spurt, ll different. The inflections sound familiar but I can't quite make out what he says because he waits until I am quite a ways away and says it softly. His social style is strange. He likes my wife (who feeds and stays home) "best" because he NEVER bites h r. But he likes me differently. He sees me as the flock leader I believe. He rarely walks onto her arm (senses her flinch?) but jumps on mine everytime I go by! He seems to want to nurture with her and play rough with me. He seldom bites my ear anymore (k ows NO!) but is more playful and rambunckious with me. He likes to be scratched equally by us. So some things are the same yet he likes each of us for differring reasons. Amazing! He only talks when we are away or out of sight though. Let me ask...we leave a bowl of seed out all the time and he eats alot of it. Is this bad? We give him apple and grapes daily (he'll kill for watermelon). We also give him a variety of junk food (he LOVES BBG frito's) but we give just a few at a time. Sh uld we switch to pellets and add sweet potatoe (he dislikes carrots)? We also have discontinued fragrant candles and air sprays. Think he'd like an avacado? (Grin) Just kidding. Thanks, Kent

I think your web site was GREAT!! Very informative, I am a beginner with birds and it was nice to get all the information I needed in one spot and what I didn't get I know where to go, thank you. I have always been interested in the large birds I now own a cockatiel. I did have a pair of nanday conrues, I sort of rescued them from thier owner, they weren't treat very nicely so I bargined with her and gave them a good loving place to live. I tried to get them to like me, but me being inexperienced I didn't really know how to go about help ng them, so I found a wonderful lady that has birds and she took them and that is how I ended up with our cockatiel. He has been a blessing and now I have more confidence with all birds. Again thank you for the informative website.

Hi other birdkeepers. I have two greys a cockatoo,eight cockatiels, two budgies and five dogs. I'd love to hear from other birdie people, especially if they can help with my Goffins cockatoo's problem. As soon as the hot weather begins, Jazz decides its time to strip off and pulls out her feathers. When we get to Autumn, she stops!! She's five year old and to my knowledge has done this for the past three years. It isn't hormonal as the vet tried that one and she kept on plucking. She is kept in a macaw cage (rectangular) and is in the same room as the two greys (they get on reasonably well and chatter away to each other. They all get out for at least three hours a day (usually much longer) and have loads of toys. I don't want to get another cockatoo as I've heard that cocks can sometimes kill hens, and altho0ugh one of my greys is in love with Jazz, I don't think she is interested in him in that way!! Any ideas?

Hello! I have an African Grey named Joe. He says just about anything he hears. I have a little dog name Ginger and Joe barks just like the dog. I can't even tell the difference between the two. I also have 4 cockatiels & 1 parakeet. Two of the cockatiels & the parakeet talks also. Between them all its sounds like a bird party here. I feed Joe cheese crackers (crackers), potato chips, apples,sometimes cabbage or anything green and just about anything he will take besides his bird seed that we buy for him. The others like little odds and ends and they seem to enjoy a piece of bread now and than. One thing for sure they go crazy over popcorn. As soon as they smell it or hear it they go crazy a jump'n and screech'n like trying to raise the roof off the house til they get some. Well I can go on and on but I think I have said enough for now. I would like to thank you for an informative wed page. The information in hand feeding will come in good use. I will soon be the proud parent of an African Grey. I have and fed Conures and a Lovebird. I was being told that it was much more difficult t hand feed Greys being that they will not want to feed. I have a question regarding the feeding schedule. How strict is this schedule? I'm asking because I work outside the home. If I'm a half hour late will there be a problem? I would like to know t is information so I know If I need to be more strict or are the baby's more tolerable than I'm being led to believe. I never had any problems with my Conures or Lovebird and I was not real strict as far as time went. I had them on a regular feeding sche ule but If I was a little late they were still ok. I just visited your site today, 12/6/97, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Cute pictures! I have one African Grey named Nairobi who is almost two and I have had him since about three weeks of age. He is great, not talking yet though. We have a houseful of ther birds, a Jenday conure named Rio, a lovebird named Rainbow, a cockatiel named Buttercup, and a Mealy Amazon named Kiwi. Kiwi is a handicapped bird. The breeder found her being eaten by her parents who had already killed her siblings for some reason and she has no toes, just little foot stubbies that she gets around on pretty well. If you have any experience with such birds I would appreciate any suggestions for toys, etc. We love and enjoy our bird family.

You have beautiful birds. Love your web site. Looks like you have a wonderful setup there in Largo. Your birds must be very happy there. We visited my dad in Sarasota in May and drove to Key West. It seems like a great bird state. We have a 2 year o d congo grey, Rosie the African Queen, who is starting to get a kick out of talking. She calls her dog and gives him orders, but mostly she likes to talk about herself and say how much she loves Rose. We also have a citron crested cockatoo named Jezebel who is a lovely creature. She is very social in her talking and though she does not speak as clearly as the grey, she has a lot to say. She uses language creatively, makes jokes, and drags me away from the computer by asking repeatedly, "Wanna watch TV " We love them both and they are pictured on my web site. I was very pleased to see a picture of your Gracie at age 25 years. It is encouraging to see a grey who is actually living a long life. We hear about it, but don't see much evidence of it. Most people think I'm crazy since I am the owner of 4 Greys that don't talk...after all, I don't fly! It was much easier for them to teach me to speak "African" than it was for me to teach them English. I haven't had much luck in the breeding depart ent. I had one pair go to nest, however, I learned the hard way that it is more important to monitor your birds daily than try not to bother them...I lost the female egg-bound. I can't seem to get the male interested in anyother female... I'm just not a good match-maker. Right now she interested, however, he is not.
