WELCOME TO DR. BILL'S ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY. | |||||||
ECOTOXICOLOGY | |||||||
Ecotoxicology is the study of the fate and effects of toxic substances on an ecosystem and is based on scientific research using both laboratory and field methods. Laboratory testing using bioassays and other methods define the toxicant impact on the individual's biochemistry and physiology. Knowledge acquired using laboratory techniques must then be integrated into field studies. Demands on ecotoxicological testing methodologies will continue to increase as concern for environmental protection from chemical impacts increases. Scientific journals continue to publish increasing numbers of manuscripts on ecotoxicological studies. The reader should check out Chapter 29 - Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecotoxicology in the 5th edition of Casarett & Doull's Toxicology - the basic science of poisons. ed. Curtis D. Klaassen. |
