B. porphyrocalyx (Baker) Berger

This bryophyllum is found in the central highlands of Madagascar at elevation of about 1500 m. Grows as a multi-branched shrublet up to 35 cm tall. It grows either as an epiphyte in the montane rainforest or on the ground. In cultivation, B porphyrocalyx is a common ornamental plant, and is well suited as a hanging plant. Inflorescence are terminal, bright red or yellow (for var. sulphurea).
