Kalanchoe

Inflorescence Flower

K. marmorata. Bak.

This kalanchoe originates from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya and Sudan. Almost another unmistakable attractive plant, having unique leaves painted with purplish/brown-blotches. The plant is erect growing and new plants grow from the base. The leaf margin is smooth except for the severe large crenatures around the tip. I noticed that the beautiful purplish/brown blotches are very prominent only when grown in a very bright position, and on the older leaves, the blotches are faint on the new growth. Most attractive plant to grow. The flower is giant with respect to other species in the genus. The flower in the photo above measures 68 mm from the tip of one petal to another! The tube is 100 mm long with sepal 28 mm in length. This greenhouse specimen is still smaller than that recorded for a field specimen.
