2002 Spring and Summer Programs

Wildlife Watch Workshop

Saturday, June 29, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

Spend a fun filled morning sharpening your skills and senses to the sights and sounds of wildlife. Discover where, how and when to see wildlife and find their signs. This is a combination of classroom sessions, followed by hands-on field activities on the Refuge. The workshop is cosponsored by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. (Optional: “Colorado Wildlife Viewing Guide” & workshop manual are available for $10, at workshop).Register by June 24
Limit 25 people, 12 years & over.

Insect Discovery

Saturday, July 20, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

What’s the difference between a bug, insect and spider? Come and spend an hour with a staff member from the Butterfly Pavilion and get the answer to these and other questions about the fascinating and diverse world of insects. There will be live specimans to look at as part of the program. Open to all ages. Register by July 15

Back Yard Bird Feeders

Saturday, August 24, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Learn how to attract a variety of birds to your backyard. Dave Menough, from “Wild Birds Unlimited” will discuss the types of plants, seed mixes, and bird baths that will attract birds and other types of wildlife to your yard. The program will take place at, and is cosponsored by the Majestic View Park nature Center. register by August 19

Summer Drop-in Hours

June through October 2002. Tuesday, Thursday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and Saturday 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Self guided tour brochures available.

The refuge has more than two miles of trails that the public can hike throughout the year. Trails are open dawn to dusk and lead visitors through prairie meadows, wetlands and riparian woodlands. Convenient parking is available next to trail heads where a kiosk will provide information about the Refuge and the Service.
No limit.

Guided Tours

Available by Appointment:

Tours focus on how to look and where to look for wildlife, wildlife signs and how wildlife and humans coexist within the same urban space. Content and approach of tours will be designed to fit the age and interest level of the group. Special bird tours, wetlands and plant tours can also be arranged.
Available for 10 or more people.

Off-Site Programs

Education and interpretive programs are available for schools, clubs, church groups and scout groups. Content focuses on the National wildlife Refuge System, wetlands, the environment and wildlife.
Available for 10 or more people.
