These animals, reptiles and birds all are threatened or endangered species in Bourbon County, Kansas. Some are threatened and endangered statewide and some are threatened or endangered nationally. Most are in danger due to loss of habitat. Some are in danger because of pollution of our water and land. Gray bats and the bald eagle have been reintroduced in other parts of Kansas and are doing well. Here in Bourbon County all of these animals are still in trouble.

What Can You Do?
There are lots of things you can do to help endangered animals. You can write to the President, your Governor or Congressmen and tell them how you feel. You can send them pictures of endangered animals like we made. You can adopt endangered animals. We adopted a manatee named Amanda. There are other adoption programs so search the web or contact your state to see if there is an adoption program to help animals or their habitat in your state.

Manatees
Manatees are endangered animals. My manatee's name is Amanda. She lives in Florida. She has four babies. She was hurt by a boat propeller. I like to help animals. (If you are interested in adopting a manatee you can learn more at the Save the Manatee Club web site.)
