At the "ONE DAY IN PEACE" Web site, President Clinton says, "Working for peace can take many forms...such as... Protecting our environment..."
Kansas Declares One Day In Peace
Our Peace Proclamation
As a result of our interest in the environment and as a result of our wanting to improve our immediate world, we wrote to Governor Bill Graves about declaring "One Day In Peace" January 1, 2000. He signed our Proclamation into law January 5, 1998. The Proclamation was announced in the local paper, the Fort Scott Tribune, to Bourbon County residents. We were very proud to discover that the Proclamation is in Costa Rica at the United Nations University for Peace. The Proclamation the Governor signed is displayed below.

Earth Proclamations
The Earth Rainbow Network supports children authoring Proclamations, or statements of intent about individual intentions towards the environment, at their web site. We contributed to their cause. The Earth Rainbow Network Members would love to have other children contribute their Proclamations to their site - a wonderful Earth Day project! To visit their site use the hyperlinked logo above.
Our Earth Proclamations
1. I, a child of the Earth, help take care of animals, make birdhouses, plant seeds, and pick up trash so animals can live and Earth is safe for them.
I try to provide water, food, cover and a place to raise their young for birds and animals.
I wrote one Governor and asked him to help animals. Kids and parents should write about animals more too.
I will keep helping animals and birds and tell others they can make a difference too.
By Nicole
2. I, a child of the Earth, want people all over the world to save the animals and plants so that kids in the future can see them too.
I believe everyone can make a difference regardless of age, by making posters, writing Governors, Presidents and Representatives, and building Backyard Wildlife Habitats.
I think kids and adults can work together to help save the environment and our Earth.
I proclaim, that I will keep planting trees, watering them, recycling, making my Backyard Wildlife Habitat grow, feeding the birds and animals in my yard, and writing the Government to help the Earth.
