We worked hard on this project and wanted to have some fun. We wrote animal stories using some of the information we learned. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing them!

Green Planet Bear

Once upon a time there was a bear named Green. He wanted everyone to help animals and take care of the environment. He decided to talk to all of the kids in the world using the internet. He told everyone about Backyard Habitats and told them it was their job to talk to the adults to help the animals and the birds.

The kids told their parents about Backyard Habitats and more and more people started feeding the birds and planting trees and flowers in their yard. The parents all wanted to meet Green so he had another meeting over the internet. The parents and kids liked him so much they called him Green Planet Bear. They all became Green Planet Crusaders.

Soon kids and parents world wide started writing to their Presidents and Kings and other world leaders. They told them that we can all help animals and birds by planting trees and shrubs for cover and plants for food. A regular water source is important the adults and kids added. The world leaders listened to the people and were happy that the Green Planet Bear had started his crusade.

Green Planet Bear was happy. He found a way to help others to help wildlife and make their yards prettier too. The birds sang to Green Planet Bear to thank him. All the people were happy too and they said that they worked to "Keep the Earth Green!"

The Sad Beaver

Once upon there was a sad beaver. He was sad because there was trash on the land where he lived. He picked it up everyday but it just seemed to come back.

One morning he got up early to try to find out where the trash was coming from. He sat and watched. He almost fell asleep when someone threw trash by his house. It was a boy.

The beaver told the boy he was sad that his land was dirty and he hoped he could help. The little boy said he wanted to help. When the beaver told the boy what happened the boy said he had left trash on the ground. The boy said he would never do it again. The boy and the beaver became friends and the boy helped the beaver keep his home clean.

Springtime

Springtime flowers bloom in my Backyard Habitat. The flowers are red, white, purple, blue, pink and yellow. Birds come back north and the feeder is busy. I hear the birds' pretty voices every morning. The trees are blooming just in time.

My Birdhouse

Everyday I look out of my window watching little sparrows build a nest. They only get one stick at a time so it's not an easy task. They fly off to find just the right stick to do the job. Sometimes the stick is too long to fit in the birdhouse and it drops to the ground as the bird watches it fall. Off he must go to find a shorter stick. Both the Mother and Father birds get sticks but it looks like the Dad does most of the work. My sparrows have been working for two weeks and I think they are almost done. It is interesting to watch the birds make homes in birdhouses. I am learning a lot about them.
