India to Indo-China and the Sundas, extending to Australia and W. Pacific. Common resident but locally migratory, in primary and old secondary forests to 4000 feet. Size 23 cm. A quiet and shy ground feeding dove, usually seen singly or in pairs, at the edges of clearings or flying fast and low through the forest. |
