Holarctic, wintering through China and Japan to S. E. Asia, Philippines, Celebes, Australia. Common passage migrant and winter visitor. Size 15 cm. Usually in small flocks with other waders. Along coastal mudflats when migrating but prefers inland padi fields or marshes. |
