N. Palaearctic, wintering in Africa, S. Asia, rare in Malaysia and not reaching Sumatra or Java. Rare vagrant, mostly in Sabah and Kalimantan. Size 15 cm. Found in ones and twos, mainly by freshwater pools and swamps but also in mudflats and tidal creeks. |
