Elephant Conservation Center is attached to the Veterinary Section of the Northern Timber Work Division of the Forestry Industry Organization
and is the first centre in Thailand to trian elephants for forest work.

The Centre is located in Ban Tung Kiew, Amphoe Hang Chat, on Lampang-Chiang Mai Highway 32 kms. from Lampang.
The Thai Elephant Conservation Center covers an area of 383 rai (53 acres) at the Tung Kiew community forest in Lampang's Hang Chat district.
At the center, the elephants's activities such as bathing, working, log pushing, etc. are held for show. In addition, the center has provided elephant riding tourist route.

Tourists are also offered a chance to buy food for the elephants
The Thai Elephant Conservation Center was set up to mark the 36th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 1991.
The Princess inaugurated the Center on March 4, 1992.

In the wild, elephant eat all times, eases the burden of the FIO, which spends a large amount of money each month on elephant food.
Tourists are also offered a chance to buy food for the elephants.
Elephant training and performances have drawn tourists, who come to watch the elephants pull logs, play tug-of-war with elephant, ride on
elephant back, and watch the elephants as they bathe in the river. On weekends a special show is put up which includes a colorful elephant
procession in a Lanna-style cultural parade. The first round show begins at 0945 am. and the last round at 1330 pm.
