The world's tropical forests, home to at least one-fifth of the world's species of animals and plants, are being destroyed at the rate of more than an acre per second. At today's rate of destruction, all the rainforests will be gone in less than 30 years! With them will be lost over a million species, the greatest extinction event since the disapperance of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Who knows what medicine and food plants we have forever discarded with out knowing about them? Like burning a library without reading the books, extinction caused by humans is a tragedy beyond measure!
