This Frnka family was listed on the passengers list as passenger #183 Josef Frnka 48, #184 Anna Frnka 28, #185 Johann " 6, #186 Petrolina " 4, #187 Barbara " 11mo., #193 Florian Frnka 24, #194 Veronika " 19, #195 Florian " 3, #196 Catharine " 11mo. During the voyage, they occupied the steerage portion of the vessel. They later took a Coastal Steamer on to Galveston, TX.
After their arrival to Texas, they first settled and farmed around Frelsburg, Colorado County, TX. In 1872, they went on to Austin County, TX., and in 1882, they moved back to Colorado Co., TX. Florian Frnka was a farmer and raised livestock. He also owned and operated two stores and the Vox Populi Post Office. He died on March 21, 1900 in Vox Populi-Nada, Colorado Co., TX. and Veronika died on November 16, 1919 in Columbus, Colorado Co., TX. They are both buried at St.Mary's cemetery in Nada, TX.
Florian Frnka's baby girl and Veronika's stepdaughter, Katerina must have died before 1880, because she is not listed on the 1880 (Austin Co.) TX. Soundex. She probably died around 1871 in Frelsburg, Colorado Co., TX., because Josef Frnka's two daughters, Petrolina and Barbora had both died around 1871. They are buried at the Catholic cemetery in Frelsburg, TX.
Florian (Sladovnik) Frnka is listed on the 1880 (Austin Co.) TX. Soundex with the Florian Frnka family, and as a Frnka child, but he had left home in 1883. Some family stories tell us that "Florian had told some of his children that he was really a Frnka, but had been mistreated. When he was sixteen-years-old, one of his parents had hit him on the side of his head so hard that it caused him to become near deaf. This was why he left home, and could never hear well again". From that point on, he went by the name of Florian Sladovnik, living and working on neighboring farms in Austin Co., TX.
Florian Sladovnik was reared as a Catholic, but one-day he met a Lutheran girl named Anna Marek. He and Anna married on September 28, 1889 in Austin Co., TX. They were farmers and reared their family as Lutherans. Anna Marek was born on December 19, 1867 in Cermana, Bohemia, Austria. She was the daughter of Frantisek & Frantiska (Jausa) Marek, who came to America in March of 1873, from Bohemia, Austria. Then between 1893 & 1895, Florian and Anna, her parents, (who went by Frank and Fanny Marek) and their families moved to a little town called Chriesman in Burleson County, TX. By 1910, they were all living around Temple in Bell County, TX.
Anna (Marek) Sladovnik died in her sleep on September 5, 1915 in Barclay, Falls Co., TX. Her father, Frank Marek was a farmer. Frank died on November 25, 1924 and Fanny, his wife died on April 17, 1921, both in Bell Co., TX. They were both buried beside their daughter, Anna at Seaton cemetery in Seaton, Bell Co., TX.
After the death of his wife, Anna, Florian Sladovnik and their children moved on to Pilot Point, TX. He wanted to be closer to his daughter, Mrs. Ike Jezek (Lillie), so that she could help him take care of the younger children. Then Florian Sladovnik died of pneumonia on February 2, 1919, 8 miles northeast of Pilot Point in Denton Co., TX., and was buried at the Masonic cemetery in Pilot Point, TX.
