A statement of the Judeao-Christian concept of soul by Dr. Lee R. Snyder

.....the Islamic, or Judeo-Christian concept of soul:
The soul is held to be the spiritual
nature of human beings, regarded as immortal, separable from the body at death, and susceptible to happiness or
misery in a future state. . A widespread concept in religion is that of immortality, which usually postulates the
existence of a soul that lives apart from the body after death. Dualistic concepts posit a God-given soul distinct from,
and antagonistic to, an inferior, earth-bound body. The soul is regarded as the essential or real part of a human
placed into the body at conception and leaving the body at death. It is the possession of a soul that separates man
from animals and plants. The soul is the spiritual part of man that originates with God and returns to the realm of
spirit upon death of the material body. (source)
