Hatching #15

Light Gold Xiorayith and Brown Fivrith

In Memorial to Mariana's leave taking from cyberweyrs, her Light Gold Xiorayith's entire cluch has abandoned itself. These dragons, having opted not to Impress upon hatching, formed impression-strength bonds with their adopters - whether they were male or female - except for the last.

"I'll bring you some of the best oil I can find!" Apollo promised the darkness where he thought Vainath was.

You'd better! The young dragon insisted as Tiyanni and the model retreated into the corridor.

Apollo seemed reluctant to go, reaching towards the smooth wooden door with manicured fingers.

On second thought... The door seemed to swing open again of it's own accord. Maybe we ought to get that oil right away? The light bronze hatchling strutted out into the corridor, and didn't seem affected by the grin on Tiyanni's face. It was as though he was used to being admired. The first to choose a rider! She'd thought Xenarioth would have chosen Xira, but apparently there wasn't a match there.

Will you be my rider, Apollo Anghanamis?

Light Bronze Vainith

Size: Large

This dragon will be ‘color-conscious’ with regards to fertility -- That is, I won't chase dirty little greens!

The epitome of vanity. This dragon must be clean and well oiled 24/7. Vai’ is very Narcissistic.
(Seeks same. Look out, world!)

S'ret and Rasa were met in the weyrbowl, having announced themselves, and Tiyanni herself took Rasa to meet the dragons.

As usual, Xenarioth was busy 'leading' the other dragons when Tiyanni opened the door. Dragonlike shadows moved about, some attempting to avoid one of the largest as it barked out orders, none of which were particularly pleasant to hear.

Rasa instantly felt connected to that dragon, and was not surprised when it whirled to face her.

If you don't stop looking at me like that... The dragon stopped abruptly. OUT! Out into the hallway with you NOW!

"I didn't take anything from that demon, there's no way I'm taking this from you!" Rasa snapped back.

Tiyanni opened the door, and the light shone in. Rasa stood face to face with the largest light green anyone had ever seen. You'll take it and you'll like it Rasa. I choose you.

Who would have thought that the leader of this pack of dragons was green?

Xenarioth

Size: Huge

Xe’ is a leader, and would definitely be suited to being a wingleader’s dragon. Never underestimate the power of Xe’… Or females!

Another voice came then. "Karinton... get out of here. What have we told you about playing with the patients?"

The man beside the bed faltered. "But Quaritoth was so adamant..."

"OUT!" Healer M'lian ordered, ushering the greenrider towards the door. "Sorry about that." M'lian said to Cecar. "That one has the Gift of persuasion..."

Cecar didn't flinch, at least outwardly.

"We'll take you down to meet the dragons once you can sit up without the world spinning. Just be patient..."

She's already patient. came a calm voice. But I will wait no longer.

M'lian's dragon Trillienth named the voice. "Quaritoth."

"Since Qua's being demanding, maybe we'll chance it now?" M'lian helped Cecar to her feet and slowly they made their way to the dimly lit cavern where the dragons awaited.

I have heard what you did. one of the mid-sized shadows said. and I know that you are the one I want. Will you be my rider, Cecar Aveline? The light brown said as he calmly stepped into the shaft of light from the open door.

Quaritoth

Size: Medium

Qua’ has a fiery temper within an unassuming cool shell, like a box of chocolates.
This dragon will need a calming influence--someone with rose-colored glasses?

Jeyann sat behind the Weyrwoman's desk, perfectly at ease with the situation, though the post had been hers for only a short time. She was not surprised in the least when the healer led young Yijaan in.

"So you're the runaway J'lenn dragged in, hmm?" Her eyes smiled right along with her voice. "Care to share what exactly it was you were fleeing from?"

Yijaan began his story - or tried to - but kept stopping, remembering that dragon's words in his head.

Jeyann smiled kindly. "Is there something else bothering you, Yijaan?"

The boy faltered. "Weyrwoman..."

The healer grinned. "He must have overheard one of Xiorayith's brood. He's been a bit more distracted since we passed there."

The new Weyrwoman's face lit up. "Is that so. Yijaan... let's postpone this just a bit. If one of those dragons wants you, you can't possibly be all bad." Jeyann stood, and offered a hand to the boy.

* * *

Back in the cavern, Vinasyrth was sulking. What if Yijaan didn't come back? Suddenly the door opened, and Jeyann walked in with Yijaan at her side.

You came back! You came back! Vi' rushed across the cavern and all but tackled the young ex-guard. Limb and wing, the hatchling wrapped itself around the boy.

Jeyann's smirk was almost audible in the softly lit room. "You've made your choice, Vinasyrth?"

I have, Weyrwoman. Yiyaan... will you be mine? The green looked up at him with hopeful, whirling eyes.

Vinasyrth

Size: Medium

Vi' is a kindhearted dragon who seeks the good in everyone. Seeks same - male or female.

As soon as Dameon's Epitath appeared above Ryslen, a warning-greeting spread through the minds of the dragons. The woman traveling with them was a fierce commanding thing who'd made Epitath quite miserable.

A few dragons laughed back, suggesting that if her dragon survived long enough, she'd end up Wingleader or Weyrlingmaster - preferably the latter...

She'll need to be taken directly to Xiorayith's brood. A silvery-gold voice addressed Epitath. Tiyanni will direct you.

Epitath landed, and a tall, older woman with silvering hair strode purposefully towards them. "Welcome to Ryslen. If you'll follow me..."

Marie opened her mouth, but before she got a word out, Tiyanni snapped. "Not a word, Sargeant, or I'll have you scrubbing privies before you can rattle off your Name-and-Number."

Startled, Marie was quiet until she was ushered into the dimly lit cavern where a small number of dragon-like shadows lounged around. "The last time I saw this many sacks of potatoes... On Your Feet!" she ordered, and every dragon but one snapped to some semblance of attention.

"I said, ON YOUR FEET!" Marie roared at the recalcitrant dragon.

Make me. Tirenneth responded with a yawn.

Before the other dragons could blink, the She-drakken had Tirenneth marching out the door. The big lazy green had met her match...

Tirenneth

Size: large

This darkly-colored dragon is –lazy-. Tir’ will take the easy way out on everything, and will do anything to avoid the rigors of sand-sitting and parenthood. (Will need a rider to get her active – or a rider to be active with – mutual prodding)

Kohanan... The sound of Brenth's voice was stronger now. Warmer. Closer. Sweeter. Wait...

From the door of the abandoned dragon's lair stepped a smallish brown hatchling.

Be my rider, Kohanan.

Brenth

Size: Small to Medium

This dragon is very likeable, hardworking, and stubborn. Bren’ would die before he let anyone down.

D'ari led the way to the abandoned dragon's lair. He'd spent enough time around Ryslen to know where he was going. Fortunately, it was a short trip, weth Kelsyriah tagging along.

Like, this place is so dirty! The unmistakable voice of Ditzth rang clearly.

"Like, You're telling me..." Kelsiryah muttered under her breath. "...eww.."

The door pushed open, and the tiniest gold dragon D'ari had seen in some time stepped out. Can we, like, go Kelsiriah?

Ditzth

Size: small -- I'm like, no larger than a green!

Like Oh my god! This dragon is the most airheaded creature on the face of the planet. It will take a very stable-minded rider to ever hope to tame this creature... or one as equally scatterbrained. A disaster waiting to happen?

The door to the lair opened, and someone stepped in. One of the dragons squealed with delight and the next thing Axcilim knew, he was pinned to the floor by a largish dragon.

Furry! Furry! Furry! Furry! the dragon chanted happily, nuzzling against the feliniod's chest.

Axcilim could only laugh. "Hi..."

The light shone in on the large, and very happy green. My furry Axcilim! I am Sylvath!

Sylvath

Size: medium to large

Syl’ is an overly excitable dragon with a penchant for furry woodland creatures.

Daron took Fred right to Xiorayith's brood - what was left of them, anyway - and it wasn't long at all before the dragons were taking a peek at the newest offering.

"So which of these little beauts is Keri?" Fred asked, smiling at the dragons. "She's..."

She? HA! One of the dragons scoffed. Where'd you get that insane idea?

The speaking dragon stepped forward, forcing Fred and Daron to step out into the hallway. The Light Blue ushered them out.

Eyes went wide. "Thought you were female for sure, with a name like Kari..."

Guess the joke's on you.

Keriteraith

Size: small to medium

This dragon is a total joker. Even if Keri’ sounds serious, it isn’t so.

Then the door opened, and the light of the corridor shone in, illuminating Chzarnth and the Dgeth Rrknz. Tiyanni was not surprised to see that they had come together.

He's mine, Tiyanni. was about all the blue had to say.

Chzarnth

Size: small

Chz’ is noble, and doesn’t admit to any downfalls, though there may be others better suited to do what must be done.

Laying on it's back in the darkened cavern was the quiet dragon Klodarth, with it's three remaining siblings dozing nearby. Faceted eyes looked up towards the ceiling, and oriented on a lone blue flitter as it wandered in.

Kynikos Monos... the philosophic dragon said to himself, and to the firelizard as he addressed it.

The blue flit seemed to stare incredulously, as if to say 'What did you call me!?', even though flits did not speak as such.

Kynikos Monos. Klodarth said as he rolled to his feet. I Name you, firelizard. Come, come with me. There is much to discuss.

Though the other dragons did not discern any reply, Klodarth addressed the Dracanian flit again. It means "Lone Cynic" in Greek --- the language of ancient philosophers. Come now.

Klodarth

Size: small to medium

This dragon is quiet, but not dimwitted. Klo’ prefers to bask in the sun and meditate on life.

When Virinia arrived at Ryslen - seeming a bit nervous and more than a bit pregnant - the searchrider Kerli sent her son Kelkerli (who was half-brother to the new Weyrleader Ke'l) to take her to see the healers, in case the trip would have done harm to her unborn child.

Kelkerli, being a very good listener, had heard quite a bit about Xiorayith's brood, and slyly led her towards their den. Surely that was where she needed to go most. When they arrived there, Kelkerli opened the door into the darkened room, and gestured for Virinia to preceed him.

Hey Baby! Spiflyth trumpeted, and raced across the mostly emptly room. Though that is what she said, what Virinia heard rather clearly in her mind was Hey! Baby!! The Light green dragon skidded to a stop before the young woman and gingerly approached, treading on soft paws towards the stationary Virinia. Spiflyth stood on her hind legs and lay her paw gently on the roundness where the baby was. Wow... Then she looked up. I'll help, Virinia, all I can, if you'd be my rider.

Spiflyth

Size: medium

Spif’ is a quirky dragon – average in size, speed, and stamina… Quite likely to get a real kicker out of those hormones and to be a wonderful Mother! and ready to party too!

Silvering-Gold Litayth, with Tiyanni on her back was spiralling down to land as Kurt and Starry Blue Phantom were heading up up and away. Phantom remembered his manners and greeted the retired Senior Queen as they passed.

Below was the young girl the Rayllomian Search pair had dropped off, and Litayth landed gently nearby. Tiyanni slid down onto the ground, and pulled off her riding goggles, still pleased with the innovations that had been made over the last decade or so. "Welcome to Ryslen." Tiyanni said brightly as she approached. "Can I help you find someone?"

Airanna looked at her, and her face betrayed no emotion. Tiyanni wasn't unnerved, as she'd dealt with quite a few stoic people in her lifetime - Brown Hirlath's rider, W'ren, for one. "He said to find Branvanth."

Somehow, this did not surprise Tiyanni either. "Well then! Come with me. I know exactly where Branvanth is usually hiding." She couldn't help but smile.

The walk to the abandoned dragon's lair was short, and as they walked, Tiyanni asked the basic questions - name, age, previous home(s). They reached the lair in short order and it was, as usual, dimly lit. Two dragons remained within - Branvanth, and Lucifidth - and neither were particularly small anymore.

"Branvanth... This is Airanna." Tiyanni said, and gestured for the girl to step further into the den. "Airanna - this is Branvanth."

The girl's expression did not change. Branvanth didn't seem to care either. But he didn't seem to not care, as he had with previous attempts at impressing him.

Hello. Branvanth said. Though Tiyanni could see no difference, the dragon's acceptance of Airanna swept over her like a healing salve.

"Hi." Airanna said, and reached out and touched the brown dragon, and that was that.

Branvanth

Size: large

Bran' is a rather emotionless specimen. This dragon takes everything, reacts to nothing. Bran' is actually deeply caring...

After Airanna and her brown had left, Tiyanni smiled softly at the last dragon. "I suppose you'll be in here by yourself now, Luc."

No. said the last of Xiorayith's brood. I will not. I have only stayed here for Branvanth's benefit. I decided long ago to remain riderless.

"Where will you go then, Luc? What will you do?" Tiyanni asked, not demanding that Lucifidth choose a rider. It was his decision.

Don't worry about me, Tiyanni. I'll keep myself occupied. With that, the small bronze flew out of the cavern, cackling madly as he swooped up into the afternoon sunshine.

Lucifidth

Size: Small to Medium

Luc' is evilly sane. A calming influence to a mad genious... himself?

Remember, I'm Riderless by Choice.
