I live at and am very proud of Sapphire Weyr!

Walking from the open, moon lit weyrbowl, silver light dancing playfully against the still, sapphire lake, a thin stream of light ahead catches your eye. You yawn, just realizing how very late it must be.

The outside of the weyr is painted with small, silver dragons and firelizards, with carvings of stars bordering them. You shrug, and step into the large weyr. A single glow sits in the middle of a desk set to your left, just barely uncovered. Beside the glow, a few papers cover the surface of the dark colored desk. You walk in fursther, and take a closer look at the papers and hides, their surface neatly covered by ink. Score apon score of music dance across the papers and hides, telling their tale of adventure and bravery.

You decide to leave the music alone, fearing whomever owns it might be mad if they find you gawking at it. So you turn, your eyes washing over the large, high ceilinged weyr. A small human bed with furs messily thrown on sets in the corner, close to the opening to the dragon weyr. Beyond the opening, you see a large, stone dragon couch, fresh straw placed neatly on. Dust coveres about everything else in the weyr. Even the ancient looking tapestries are covered in dust, hiding their colorful stories of the past. A shelf piled high in unused hides and full jars of ink sets close to where you're standing. It's old, stained wood looks as if it came from a tree living turns ago.

A tall, thin young man walks into the weyr from the dragon entrance. A few pieces of straw are stuck in his hair and clothes, and you giggle to yourself at his tired expression. "Ah.. hello?" he asks, straightening himself as you step further into the weyr.

"I'm just a traveller looking around." you tell him. He stiffles a yawn, stretching out his long arms, and replies, "Well what are you doing here so late? Don't you know young people need their sleep?" he says, flashing a grin at you. He walks slowly to the glow on his desk, and opens it a bit further. He turns, showing you his dark blue tunic, with a single white embroidered firelizard near the bottom. It hangs loosely against his thin, but slightly built body. He runs his fingers through his dark auburn, struggling to keep it out of his brown eyes, and to get the few pieces of straw out of it.

He stiffles another yawn, then smiles broadly. "My name's Jazinit, but a lot of people just call me Jaz. Ah... I was just...uh... writing a new song back there, that's all." he tells you, grinning braodly.

He offers you a nearby chair, and you sit down, feeling rather tired yourself. He pulls a chair next to yours before sitting down. "So, where are you from?" you ask, moving around in the chair before you get comfortable. "Well, I was born here at Sapphire. Always been a weyrbrat." he grins, then continues, "My mother wasn't a dragonrider, but she lived her with my father anyway. I had a pretty average life for a weyrbrat, getting into trouble, stealing food, getting lost. You know what I mean. Living here all my life, I know every part of the Weyr. Which is fun, because I have to show people around sometimes, even the Weyrwoman doesn't know all of the Weyr. Well, no one really expected me to impress, and they still don't. They say I get to caught up in my...ah... writing, that I lose all interest for anything else. But I would never lose interest in my life friend. I couldn't do that."

"My father has a brown. I really like my father's dragon, he's a lot of fun to talk to. When I was little, he would keep me company when my mom and dad were at meetings and things." he says, smiling widely. You look back to the dark desk with the many scores of music. Jaz smiles, and continues, "I've been taking lessons from the Weyrhaper since I was about five or so. I was so glad when Sapphire got the new harper. Her name's Aura..." he says, trailing off. You glance back at him, and laugh to yourself at the dazed look on his face. Blushing a bit, he stands and walks over to the desk. "Do you want to see some of them?" he asks, obviously trying to change the subject.

You stand, stretching your tired muscles a bit, then walk over to where the young man is standing. There are so many of them though, you think. You reach down and pick up one thta looks interesting. The words are small and a little hard to read, but you can just make them out. The lyrics go:

Flames dance wildly from deep within
Thunder wingbeats of dragon-kin
Skies of silver that once were blue
Show all their bravery and riders true
Raging onward against it's force
Spoiling the evil red-star's course

That's pretty good, you think. You look up at Jaz, who is now smiling from ear to ear. "Well?" he asks, seeming very excited, "That's my favorite piece. I want to show it to the Weyr Harper to see what she thinks. It would be great if one of my songs got.... noticed...." he says, trailing off as a small young woman stiffles a yawn when appearing at the entrance of the dragon weyr.

"Oh!" the young woman exclaims, wrapping a fur around herself. "Well, Ah see ya 'ave coompany Jazzy. Ah'll jus' be goin' back ta ma Weyr then." she says, her rich accent causing you to smile. She smiles broadly while walking past you. Jaz turns as red as a redfruit, and turns back to you. "That was... uh.. my friend Cristanna from the Weyr above thsi one."

He sighs, seeming to be in deep thought, then says suddenly, "My father's dragon was the one who told me I'd be a good dragonrider. I was pretty surprised, but I was really happy too. The Weyrwoman here sent me to Talis Weyr to see if I could become a candidate. I really hope I can, and I hope I impress too. I've always loved dragons and everything about them, but it kind of made me sad to think everyone thought I wouldn't impress. I don't have the slightest clue as to why they'd think that..." he says.

The short young woman pokes her head in the weyr again, smiles, and says, "Ah fergot ma favorite tunic. Will ya bring it to me tomorrow Jazzy? Ya'r such a dear, love, thanks!" she smiles again then hurries off, leaving the young man blushing deeper. You laugh to yourself, covering your mouth to try to stop. "Ok, ok, so maybe I can see why, but........AH, nevermind! I'll show them, I'll impress the most beautiful dragon! I'd be happy if I came back with just a firelizard, but a dragon would be so wonderful!" he exclaims, almost yelling. "Ah... sorry about that. I guess I get carried away sometimes. Anyway traveller, it's pretty late. I need to get up early tomorrow and help my father and his brown." he yawns again, then smiles as you turn to leave.

"Oh traveller! Please come back! I'd like for you to see if I impressed!" he yells as you make your way to the open, moonlit weyrbowl.

HAHA! I don't know how I did it, but I worked out the border perfectly!
