Leonard & Delilah Quieto have had another loss in their family. Louise Quieto, Leonard's mother passed away in March. Members of long standing can well remember when she attended the meetings and enjoyed the picnics. Our sincere sympathy to Leonard & Delilah.
Leonard & Delilah Quieto extend warmest thanks for the many cards and kind remembrances of sympathy that were sent during the recent loss of their son and Leonard's mother.
The next Executive board meeting will be held at the home of Delilah Quieto, 1952 Beech St., Santa Clara, Monday May 10th at 7:30 P.M.
Our more than generous member Jim Nichols has donated many trophies for us to use for our Feather Show. We all say "thank you" - especially those lucky people who will win one at the Show.
What do you do when that bird hits your window, your cat brings an injured bird to you or that baby squirrel suddenly falls from your backyard tree? You can join Wildlife Rescue to be a volunteer. Classes will be held at P.A. Cultural Center, 1313 Newell Rd., Palo Alto, on April 22nd & April 29. This is a non-profit organization that cares for injured or orphaned animals and returns them to the wild on recovery.
The committee for the Moscone Center Pet Show to be held on July 24 & 25th have been working hard trying to get things organized. Carol Roston gave a report at the Executive board mtg. She said two large portable flights have been donated by a cage co. for us to display birds. These flights will be available for sale after the Pet Show. If you have any ideas for decorating or bird display, contact Carol or me. The booth is huge, so we'll need lots of plants, etc. We naturally would like to borrow the displays rather than rent them.

APRIL MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
A hearty thanks to Pat McMullin for inviting Dr. Bill Gallant to be a speaker on bird medicine, at our March meeting! It was a great meeting enjoyed by all. My personal thanks to these people, Mary Volpe, Nikkie McClatchie, Chuck Arella, Ralph Price, Glen Mitchell, and Erwin Klockemann for bringing Finches and sharing their information with us on breeding, colors, etc. This was most interesting to everyone and such a pleasure to see these beautiful little birds. My personal thanks again for getting involved.
It was suggested at the March meeting that we show a drawing of the accepted show cages for all birds in our show. I thought rather than a drawing, we would have samples of all show cages at our April meeting.
Now, just a word about show cages. If you try and find an accepted standard size Red Factor show cage in California, you can not. The Red Factor cage that the National Show wants used is a three (3) sided box cage with wire front! However, most shows in California do not use this type of cage. We use an all metal black cage, with front waters. The Border and York cages are smaller and have rounded tops. The following people are bringing a show cage to show the different sizes used.
Joe Gordon - Red Factor
Margaret Roche - Type (Borders)
Check Arella - Finch
(someone please) - Yorks
Allen Thompson - English Budgerigar
Every year at show time we are asked again and again, "Do I have to use a regular show cage to enter my birds?" The answer to this is "No." However, your birds will not show as well in odd size cages and therefore are much less likely to win any awards. I can not say I have never seen a winner in an odd size cage, but it is very rare. So you should start to acquire your cages now for the 1982 shows.
Our last meeting was held in the multi-purpose room thanks to Chuck Arella. The room is great for size and much better for our meetings. Next meeting, however, we will have the loud speaker system set up, as it is a little difficult to hear. Again, the only request we have from the school, is to leave the room clean. Thanks to you who helped clean up.
Our April meeting program will be on Parakeets and Budgerigars. I would like to ask the following people to bring at least one or a pair to the April meeting. I have tried to get all the names of members who raise these birds from the Roster, but if you're left off, please bring a bird anyway.

Congratulations to our March Lucky Dorr Prize winner, Ron Mercer's nephew, Scot Mercer. The door prize was a check for $25.00. Now you can't beat that, can you?
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new members to the club. I hope everyone will make them feel at home and get to know them. Their names are included in Nikkies' newsletter.
More news coming about the "Pet Fair" at the next meeting. If you have questions before that time, call Carol Roston or Zoe Ann Janowsky.
See you at the meeting.
