THIRD NOTICE: Vote upcoming this month on the question of the raise in dues from $12.00 to $18.00 per family per year as of Jan. 1, 1984. Editorial Comment: We gotta do it. We just can't keep providing $20.00 worth of services for each $12.00 worth of dues received.
NEWS FLASH FROM VISALIA: Otto Blackwell is scheduled for heart surgery this Wednesday, June 1, to have a valve replacement. He is determined to be back on his feet at full trot within three days but, somehow, I think it may take him a day or two longer. A kind thought and a quick prayer is in order. Let's hope the Blackwell family winning streak holds.
CORRECTION: ROSTER: That should be Tony DiBono, NOT DiBond
ROSTER: Additions for this month are
Joe & Ann Brager, canaries
Carolynn Donnelly
Geneva Jacobson
Welcome All!
WANTED: 2 female scarlet crested. 1 female turquosine. Erwin Klockemann
RAFFLE: Scheduled donors this month are: Nikkie McClatchie, Bud Reller and anyone else who can join 'em. My little piece of paper listing last month's donors has disappeared but we are all most grateful and I promise the those good folks won't remain anonymous any longer than can be helped.
EVENT: You may remember that we almost arranged for you to hear Mickey Ollson speak last year but last minute schedule changes prevented it. Well, the opportunity is not lost forever! Mickey will be the speaker at San Francisco Avicultural Society, San Francisco State University, Science Building, Room 101 (19th Avenue in San Francisco, just south of Stonestown.) for those of you who are new in birds, Mickey Ollson is a very special aviculturist. He has been raising all kinds of birds since the age of 6; he owns and operates tow exotic bird farms where he raises 150 different species of exotic birds. He also has 20 species of exotic hoofed stock and marsupials. He holds six 1st breeding awards and two significant achievement awards as well as a golden award from A. F. A. and of the American Pheasant and Waterfowl Assoc. The list goes on and on, but you get the picture. The man is also an excellent speaker as well as an all around nice person. Schedule one more bird event for June, folks. Come hear him on the fourth Sunday, June 26, at 1 PM at the address above. You'll hate yourself if you miss it.
JUDGES: for the November show Thanksgiving Week-end 1983 are:
Red Factors - Frank Crane
Type - Bob Lambe
Exotics - Brian Mandarich
Budgies - Don Denny
Domestics - Joe Gordon
MARK: Your calendars now so you won't forget to reserve October 8 for the feather show. It's at the school this year and we'll make an event of it with bird sales and goodies to eat and all that fun stuff.
TROPHIES: It has been suggested that we drop the division third trophies (not the award - just the trophy) in order to give trophies to the second and third best in show birds. When you think about it, a bird has to beat an awful lot of other birds to make it as far as the best-in-show awards and it seems a little strange for those birds to just take home rosettes when all those division third birds take home trophies, sometimes after beating only a few other birds to get there (or none!) Think about it and we'll discuss it on meeting day.
BBQ: Remember that the charge this year is $3.00 each per adult member, $7.50 per adult guest, still free hot dogs for the kids. Please fill in the reservation at the end of this letter and get it to Leonard Quieto (or call him) by July 1.
FOR SALE: Society finches, strawberry finches, cordon blue, Pekin robins, peachface lovebirds, blue masked lovebirds, Bourke's parakeets. Erwin Klockemann.
FOR SALE: Getting out of canaries: Borders, 35 adult males, 65 adult hens, approx. 100 1983 chicks, 45 breeding cages (bult by L. Quieto), one mite box, two automatic waterers, an insect fogger, 6 Border show cages, 15 Gloster show cages, 8 Yorkshire show cages, 6 small wooden cages, 1 double breeder, one 4' x 3' divided perch unit with 6 perches, many boxes of cups, perches and incidentals, nests.
