MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
What is a sponsor? Webster quotes: one who assumes responsibility for some other person or thing! How many times have you sponsored a new member into the Bird Club? Maybe all of you have not, but I know many have. Now according to Webster, did you follow through? Did you show the new person the ropes? Did you help to instruct them how to breed good birds, birds of show quality? Did you invite them over to your home and show they how to pair, set up or just discuss what youknow about bird breeding?
If you are like I am; I'm afraid I would have to plead guilty to not doing the above mentioned things. You old timers, can you remember your first (1st) meeting? Wouldn't you have appreciated someone taking a personal interest in you? I know I would have!
So - let's see if we can't start to help each new member get on the right track. Carolyn Hansel is the new chairman of this Sponsor Program but we all need to help. Carolyn will come up with some ground rules at our next meeting as to what procedures we should follow when accepting a new member and helping our past new members. Lets break down the barriers gang.
Did you know that only 20% of our members entered birds in our 1981 Show. Why? - Maybe the newer members are afraid to show birds or embarassed thinking they may look foolish!
Our thrust this year at the Feather Show will be Novice Only! Non Novice breeders may exhibit birds but not enter them in competitions! This should be very exciting for the Novice breedersand Carolyn Hansel and Glen Corlew will see that you get all the help you need. More later about this exciting event.
Do you all know the difference between a Lavender Waxbill and a Star Finch? If not and even if you do, our March meeting will be exciting for all. The following people are going to bring finches and teach us the names and classification of these beautiful little birds. This will be an opportunity for everyone to learn everything they did not know about finches. Our Program Chairman, Pat McMullen, will be contacting you to see what kind of finch you will be bringing.

If your name is on this list, please try and bring at least one finch with you to the meeting. The more participation, the more exciting this meeting will be. If your name isn't on the list and you do raise finches, please feel free to bring a bird with you.
The February 14th meeting was a great success with sixty-four (64) people in attendance! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Margaret Roche, Pat McMullen, Ralph Barnes and Bertha Andrews for their most informative program. I think everyone would agree this was a very enjoyable meeting.

There will be a surprise door prize at the March meeting! Something everyone can use. Don't you want to come and see what it is?
The BarBQue is already to go. I have engaged Lakewood Village Park this year and the date will be Sunday, July 11th. Leonard Quieto is our Chairman for this great get-together.
As I have mentioned above the March meeting will be on Finches and going on, the April meeting will be on Parakeets and Budgerigars. The May meeting will be on Small Hookbills, and the June meeting on Large Hookbills. Of course there will be other exciting programs incorporated into these meetings. Be sure to check with Pat McMullan or myself if you have questions or comments on the programs. Remember, the club meetings will only be as good as you make them.
