About
Spica
Spica is a free astronomical software for those
who wish to prepare
their observation nights and better understand what happens in the sky.
With all its different screens you can
- - see maps of the sky,
- - see the trajectories of the planets in the sky,
- - have a picture of Saturn in 3D and of 6 main satellites,
- - see Jupiter's great red spot and Jupiter's 4 satellites,
- - see the solar system in 3D, it's possible to move, to see more than 2800 asteroids,
- - zoom on some particular parts of the sky as if you were using a telescope ...
- - see the graph of conjunctions,
- - see the dance of a planet around the Sun,
- - have the ephemerids.
Eventually, there is an event analyser that predicts interesting phenomena :
- - eclipses,
- - periodic meteors showers,
- - oppositions,
- - conjunctions,
- - the planets that are easy to see,
- - when they rise...
With it you won't miss any event, except some super novae ;-)
With some numbers, Spica is:
- - the 9 planets of the solar system,
- - 11 satellites,
- - 19 billions of stars (mag 16) if you own the Guide Star Catalog else 1600 (mag 6.0)
- - 2800 asteroids. You also can use others asteroid files found on the web and particularly the edb files from (XEphem),
- - 106 Messiers objects,
- - 200 other NGC objects.
But nothing is better than pictures :
- Screen shots
