Film: "1492 - Conquest of Paradise" (1992).
French actor Gerard Depardieu is Christopher Columbus, and Sigourney Weaver is
Queen Isabel, in this movie filmed on location in Costa Rica and Spain on the
five hundredth anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the New World. Director
Ridley Scott says of 1492, "This movie focuses on the man's (Columbus) achievements
and failures. At the end of it you have to decide, was he a bad guy or a good
guy or just human?"
1492 fizzled at the box office and had mixed reviews from the critics.
