Film: "8MM" (1999).
Joel Schumacher's trip into the seedy underworld of porn and death is nowhere
as soul wrenchingly shocking as he thinks it is - since when was moral decay
and sexual depravity going to be anything but insipidly gorgeous when shot by
the Schume? - but there are things to enjoy, chief among them Joaquin
Phoenix's engaging performance as the brilliantly monikered sidekick Max
California and Mychael Dana's mad Moroccan score.
Special features: Trailer, uninspired behind the scenes feature plus a
commentary by Schumacher in which he mostly informs us that everyone from the
screenwriter to the key grip is "a wonderful human being." Entertaining, but
only occasionally informative.
