Film: "Aladdin" (1992).
Aladdin was promoted as being in the tradition of "The Little Mermaid" and
"Beauty and the Beast", but I didn't think it was as good as either of them.
The principal characters, Aladdin and Princess Jasmine don't have the depth in
their personalities that was so remarkable in Ariel, Belle and
The Beast.
Robin Williams, however, who plays the voice of the genie, steals the show.
Robin spits out comedy so fast it is hard to keep up with it - and the
animation keeps right up with it. Robin Williams has found a perfect character
in the genie: he can change shape, do feats of magic, make dozens of funny sounds,
and bounce from one place to another faster than a superball!
Overall, Aladdin is an enjoyable movie. The animation is superb, the
music is good, the characters are more than adequate, but the story is predictable
and hackneyed. Recommended for families with children.
