FILM REVIEWS

Film: "Scrubbers" (1982).
This film is less obviously aggressive than Scum; both films were scripted by Roy Minton - but it still possesses a vivid vein of nastiness and sense of resentment. Mai Zetterling's story follows two Borstal girls, a lesbian orphan in search of her ex-lover and an increasingly violent single mother, frustrated at not being able to see her daughter. Crude but effective, Zetterling used mainly unknowns in the cast (an early Kathy Burke) and members of the women's theatre group Clean Break, made up of ex-prisoners.
