Film: "Wag the Dog" (1997).
The President is about to be caught up in a sex scandal and election day is
looming so the White House media corps, headed by Robert de Niro, sets up some
serious spin - sound familiar? The spin, in this case, concerns a war in
Albania - concocted by Hollywood producer Dustin Hoffman - to get the spirit
of patriotism going and give the President an easy ride. Barry Levinson's film
should work, but it doesn't grip the imagination as it might - perhaps,
because truth is sometimes even stranger than fiction.
