On this page you will find instructions for IRC, chat servers that you can use, and any other things to do with IRC.

IRC Instructions
These following things work in both Talk City and in regular IRC.

To get into IRC: Go to the "Home" page, then click on community. Next click on chat, and you will see a screen pop up with some talk city rooms and a sidebar that says "Go to", click on it. It will give you a screen that you can input the server name, port number (normally 6667), and the room name.

Some IRC rules: Here are some IRC rules you should follow:

1.) NeVeR tYpE lIkE tHiS
2.) Never type in caps LIKE THIS
3.) Don't keep typing pointless stuff and hit enter and keep doing it, it will only make trouble
4.) Don't use bad language in public rooms

These are only a couple of rules, please follow these because if you don't you could get kicked or banned from the room you are in

Port Numbers: IRC uses port numbers with the IRC servers. You will see when you go to "go to" on the main chat screen that is says port number: 6667. There are different port numbers that some sites might use. Most of them are 6666, 6667, 6668, 6669, and 7000. Most servers use 6666 and 6667. It all depends on what server you are using

IRC Servers
Here are a few IRC servers that are good ones to use. These are only a few, there are many, many more. Just go to a search engine and search for IRC servers

chat.talkcity.com port: 6667
okc.ok.us.undernet.org port: 6667
irc.aimnet.com port: 6667 or 6666
irc.stealth.net port: 6666 or 6667
irc.funet.fi port: 6666 or 6667

IRC Commands
Here are the IRC commands that work with WebTV in IRC rooms and in Talk City rooms:
/jointype in /join and then a room name to go to that room. For example: /join hockey
/msg nick messageUse this command to send a private message to people in your room or people on your server in another room. Use /msg nick(person's handle) message(what you want to say). For example: /msg bob hi , and if I was using the handle llama it will show up like this: llama (to bob): hi
/meuse /me to express a action. For example if you are using the handle llama and type /me says hi it will show up as: llama says hi.
/whouse /who to find out who is in the room you are in. Just type /who and it will give you the list of names. You can also click on people on the sidebar but this is quicker
/whoisUse /whois to find out a person's full handle. Since IRC only lets up to 8 letters. Say I am using my handle llamamonkey, it will show up as llamamon. When you type in /whois llamamon, it says: llamamon is llamamonkey
