Modelling the Middle Base

This picture is from the Spline Editor with a backdrop picture loaded.   I have created a spline object of 1/2 of the middle base piece.  Points were added and saved to create a Detail Editor object.

This 1/2 outline object has been placed in the detail editor.  It has been cleaned up and the axis has been strategically placed for mirroring the opposite half.

The object was copied and pasted upon itself.  The new copy was mirrored over the x-axis and the two halves were joined.  Now I have a complete outline of the middle base without faces.

The object was extruded and then the new end had all the points selected in point mode.  The points were then joined and translated (transformation requestor) the exact distance back that was extruded.  So now I have a faced object.  The faced outline was then extruded to the appropriate distance to create the finished object below.

The object was finally scaled to size using the transformation requestor after scaling and correctly placing the objects axis.  This has been explained in detail elsewhere in this tutorial.
