The Big Cat purrs on fan's webpage
by: Amanda Jennings
As Jody Wong tore through two packs of baseball stickers several years ago, one player stood out among the rest: Andres Galarraga. He was the only Expos player in the bunch, and, since Wong was an Expos fan, it make sense it would draw his attention. That was the day, Wong remembers, he became a Galarraga fan. At "Jodeman's Andres Galarraga Fan Page," <http://www.oocities.org/SiliconValley/Park/2212/andres.html>, it's easy to see the admiration and respect Wong, a 29-year-old technical representative from Montreal, has for the Braves' first baseman. The page features an easy-to-maneuver design, comprehensive information, and your choice of English or Spanish version!
Wong begins with logos of ballclubs Galarraga has played for, which are links to each team's official websites, and then flows into some quotes by Montreal manager Felipe Alou, who incidentally, gave Andres his "Big Cat" nickname.
Beneath the quotes and Wong's story of becoming a fan, is a section detailing Galarraga's fight against cancer. The area has several links to articles and also includes Wong's own thoughts upon hearing the news. Below that section are links to other areas of the sit.
In "The Collection", you can view an autographed baseball card of Galarraga, as well as read the story of how Wong managed to obtain it at a Montreal hotel in 1993.
In "Photos", you can find pictures of Galarraga, including one from the Expos calendar, photos from Montreal magazines and newspapers, and one of the Big Cat with Michael Jordan.
The "Statistics" page features stats, career notes, and awards from the regular season, All-Star Games, and even a section with Galarraga's statistics from his play in Venezuela!
Of course, when one's favourite player changes teams, a fan goes through many emotions. Wong is no different. By clicking on "The Signing" link, you can read his thoughts of Galarraga signing with the Braves two years ago, as well as several articles about the move.
In addition, the page includes a "Reviews" section, with website reviews people have done, as well as an article from Sports Collector Digest about Wong and his Galarraga collection.
Finally, did you know that there are books about the Big Cat? Well, there are, and you can find out about them by clicking on "Books". Two books are listed, one being 48 pages long and one being 28 pages. Both books are available for purchase at the Amazon website <http://www.amazon.com>.
