Hackers

The term hacker has been misused by the media since the early 1980's. Hackers are totally different people than they have been represented as; one of the ethics held to by the truest hackers is to allow no harm to come as a result of their actions.

The classic hackers were explorers, those whose sole interest was learning as much as possible about the electronic systems that fascinated them. Some hackers might take excursions into other computer systems, and took the utmost care to disturb nothing; however, this was not their focus. Their goal was not destruction, nor profit, nor revenge; their goal was the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of conquest. A true hacker believes that information should be free, and that pushing the envelope of what is possible should be a daily occurence. They believe that every system is ripe for improvement, whether the system is a computer, a program, a set of traffic lights, or a government.
