Krypt 6 is a DOS based encryption program designed for speed. It is intended for personal or small business use as some security was comprimised to yield the greatest speed possible. It is not recommended that Krypt 6 be used to secure important or vital files, but it is certainly sufficient for keeping prying eyes out of your files.
Krypt 6 uses a simple command-line interface to encrypt files. Here are some examples:
K6 -e filename.ext password | Encrypts the file filename.ext with the password password. |
K6 -d filename.ext password | Decrypts the file filename.ext with the password password. |
K6 -e *.* password | Encrypts all files in the current directory with the password password. |
K6 -e -c *.* password | Encrypts all the files in the current directory with the password password and changes all their filenames. |
Krypt 5 vs Krypt 6: While there encryptions schemes are identical, they are not compatible. Files encrypt with Krypt 5, must be decrypted with Krypt 5 and the same for Krypt 6. Krypt 6 supports Win95 long file names, but must be run in a DOS shell in Windows95. Also, Krypt 6 does NOT support full drive encryption like Krypt 5 did (due to the way Windows95 handles low level disk access). If you do not have Win95, or need to encrypt entire drives, download Krypt 5.
