How to make your own serial cable...?

If you decided to make your own serial cable let me tell you it is the best option, you will not have to spend about 20 dollars for a simple serial cable.


Essential Parts

- First of all you need a 9 pin connector for PC.

- A 4 pin connector for the HP48. Click Here for more information about it...

- A 1.5 meters 4 wire cable.

 


Instructions

- Take the HP48 cable and connect it with the 4 wire cable and the serial cable as it is shown in the diagram.
  

PIN 1   GND                 Logical 0 Volt
PIN 2   TX                  Data are transmitted through this pin
PIN 3   RX                  Data are received through this pin
PIN 4   SHIELD              *

*Using SERIAL 9 connector, SHIELD remains unconnected, you can connect 
it with GND.
(For the SERIAL CONECTOR check on any PC or MS-DOS manual for pin distribution).

- Be sure all the connections are properly soldered and insulated.

- Finally you have it just in three easy steps.
