SOAPS MOST MEMORABLE WEDDINGS
Soaps In Depth
Dated: March 9, 1999

For these five supercouples, getting to the church on time was only the beginning of their wedding-day adventures. Wherever they went, excitement followed – whether or not it had bothered to RSVP! Even merely exchanging vows of love became acts of derring-do for these dynamic duos. Sound like your kind of party? Great! Fasten your seat belt and get ready to take a roller-coaster ride down (and up) Memory Lane.

If At First You Don’t Succeed… (Ned Ashton and Lois Cerullo)
“The viewers felt like they’d seen Ned a Lois go through a lot to get together, and to see it finally culminating in a wedding was the kind of satisfying moment where the angels sing and the heavens open up,” suggests Wally Kurth of his character’s joyous second union with babe-licious Brooklynite Lois Cerullo. The first time the two wed, it was in secret; after all, he was committing bigamy! So naturally, the second go-round, the couple wanted everything to be perfect – from the number of brides (just one) to the icing on the cake. They got off to a rocky start when the Quartermaine family yacht almost sank on the way to the ceremony. But when all was said and done, the day was just about perfect – and proved that the pair now knew that openness and honesty were the best policies. “The best part for me,” remembers Kurth, “ was when Lois ran through her old neighborhood in Lila’s wedding dress introducing Ned to all her old friends along the way.”

Endless Love (Patrick Thornhart and Marty Saybrooke)
Everyone in Llanview knew that Marty and Patrick were destined to be together… but would fate cut them a break? In an intimate ceremony atop Llantano Mountain, friends gathered as the bride walked down the aisle at last. After the poetic exchange occurred, the new husband and wife were joined by loves ones at a reception. But, out of nowhere, gunfire erupted and Mel Hayes was struck down. Patrick chased the shooters to Todd’s penthouse, where more violence exploded. In a tragic turn of events, Patrick himself was shot and presumed dead. When Marty arrived, she held her husband in her arms, her ow life draining from her as his was taken from him. It was to be the happiest day of her life, but instead, it turned hideously wrong. Then, a miracle occurred. In the ambulance, Marty felt Patrick’s pulse – his heart was beating. A doctor herself, she tended to his gunshot would while they plotted their escape from Llanview. Allowing everyone to believe that he had died, she left a note explaining that she needed to leave forever; she could never remain without the love of her life. In reality, the newlyweds snuck away to begin their lives anew, far from the danger of Llanview.

Going To The Chapel (Bo Buchanan and Nora Gannon)
In the summer of 1995, the biggest event to hit Llanview was a rock-‘n’-roll wedding – no kidding! They broke the mold as far as couples go when Bo and Nora got together, because no two people were ever more in sync than this dynamic duo… and their unique ceremony proved it! Adding to their once-in-a-lifetime romance, the couple found someone equally rare to pronounce them man and wife: legendary rocker Little Richard! Throwing caution to the wind, as well as throwing aside the traditional white wedding gown, the new Mrs. Buchanan was the belle of the ball that night in a bright fuchsia dress. And Bo, as always her equal, wore a tux that looked like it had its day in Grease. After the less-than-traditional nuptials, the bride and groom hosted an all-out sock hop for their party going guests. In a true ‘50-style bebop extravaganza, everyone in Llanview twisted and shouted until the wee hours of the morning. Of course the newlyweds led the crowd in doing what they always do best – jitterbugging the night away.

Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off (Frisco Jones and Felicia Cummings)
When Frisco first laid eyes on Felicia, he never dreamed that the pretty young thing someday would become the “lady of his heart.” After all, at the time, she was disguised as a boy! But two years and several madcap adventures later, the rock singer launched a career in law enforcement and asked the Aztec princess to be his bride. Unfortunately, they had very different ideas about what “settling down” meant. After the rookie cop nearly got himself killed, his betrothed got cold feet and called off the nuptials. Devastated, the would-be groom poured out his soul to his fiancée. Even if he died tomorrow, he insisted, he’d want to spend his last day with her. Finally, she relented and made a mad dash to set their wedding plans in motion again. When their big moment came, he looked like the handsomest man she had ever seen, all decked out in his police uniform. He sweetly serenaded his new wife, tears of joy caressed her cheek as gently as the man to whom she was about to pledge her life.

Great Expectations (Luke Spencer and Laura Baldwin)
It was Tuesday, November 17, 1981, and the world was poised to watch what would become daytime’s most celebrated event: the wedding of Luke and Laura. Having overcome Frank Smith’s wrath and Laura’s messy first marriage to Scotty, the engaged duo invited their friends to celebrate their joy at the mayor’s mansion. Never had a bride looked so radiant as Laura, in her dazzling white, beaded gown and matching headpiece! But the joy they shared was only part of the thrill of the day. Helena Cassadine spat a silent curse at the two, and Scotty became Luke’s punching bag after catching Laura’s bouquet! Happily, the newlyweds refused to let the commotion intrude on their day. When the ruckus died down, the danced the afternoon away before riding off in an antique car.
