I. Installation (WinNT and Win95/98)

Copy iconinst.exe into a temporary directory. Click on iconinst.exe to expand the setup files. Click on setup.exe to install Icon Installer to a location of your choice. An icon will be added to your Start Menu.

II. How to Use Icon Installer

A) Add computer names. Select "Modify Computer Names" from the options menu. Add the computer names and the OS type. OS type should be "WinNT" or "Win95" (use Win95 for Win98 machines also). A blank entry will assume WinNT. Note: You must have administrative access to the computers you want to distribute this to. For WinNT, you must be in the local Administrators group. For Win95, the admin features must be installed with you listed as admin. Icon Installer will retain 1 database of computer names in Access 97 format. You may organize multiple databases by copying names.mdb to create multiple databases. Icon Installer will only use the database names "names.mdb", so you will have to organize this at the file level. There is a blank database named "names.bak" if you want to start with a fresh copy. If you have problems updating the db, copy names.bak over names.mdb to get a fresh start.

B) Select the Source. Select the shortcut icon you wish to distribute by clicking on the button "Select Shortcut Icon". Locate the shortcut icon. Be sure that the path contained in the shortcut is the same for all users of this distribution.

C) Select the destination path. You can choose the desktop, the start menu (assumed to be off C on win95), or an alternative path. Alternative paths should include the root, i.e. to send to c:\temp, use \c$\temp\
