Trainspotting by Irvine Wesh

Trainspotting, by Irvine Welsh, 1996
Paperback, American Edition, ISBN: 0-393-31480-4

You must have been living in the moon if you have not hear anything about this book. It was made into a film and both incarnations of the story have gained cult status.

It begins like:

Sweat wis lashing ofay Sick Boy; he wis trembling. Ah wis jist sitting thair, focusing oan the telly, tryin no tae notice the cunt. He wis bringing me doon. Ah tried tae keep ma attention oan the Jean-Claude Van Damme video.

When I first read it, I thought "God, Why did I buy the book in the first place? I can't read this, it ain't english!". But after the first few pages you get used to it. No, you get addicted to it.

The story is nothing more than daily life episodes from a couple of junkies in Edinburgh, briliantly told.
