Puppy Placement
Policies
Snugharbor
has several puppy placement policies in effect. Many of these policies are
based upon a "Breeders Code of Ethics" which is a requirement of
membership with the Jersey Skylands Labrador Retriever Club, of which the
Snugharbor Breeder is a founding member and major proponent of the Code of
Ethics.
- All
puppies are placed on AKC Limited Registration. This
is a "not-for-breeding" registration. This is required of
all pet puppies leaving Snugharbor for the express purpose of preventing either
unintended or intentional breeding of Snugharbor dogs. We do this to
help prevent pet over-population, and unscrupulous breeding of Labradors.
- All dogs are
sold with a contract, with a spay/neuter clause. Snugharbor intends all dogs to be placed out as family companions, as
well-loved members of the family. Snugharbor encourages dog-related
activities such as obedience training and competition. For the
peace of mind of all, it is required that your Snugharbor dog be neutered.
- If at any time,
you cannot keep your Snugharbor dog,
you are to return the dog to Snugharbor, or receive written
permission to place the dog, once the new home has been evaluated by the
Snugharbor breeder. We are responsible for all the little lives we
have created, and will be here for all of them, regardless of age or
infirmities.
- New owners of a
Snugharbor dog are expected to follow responsible dog ownership
tenants. These include providing a fenced-in yard; adequate and appropriate nutrition
as per breeder instructions; training; all necessary veterinary care both
routine and emergency; socialization and love.
- All Snugharbor
dogs are meant to be a member of their new family,
and a couch potato if they choose to. It is expected that the dog be
in the home, underfoot, and always with family members, and never tied
outside, or left outside while the owner(s) are not home.
