ALEX V. COOK'S "20 OBSESSIONS"

I make art out of obsession. Obsession with things, people, life, art, whatever. I always hope art will quench the obsession, but it just makes me obsess more. I don't know whether obsession is good or bad, voluntary or genetic. It just refuels the need to make more art, to keep living.

There are 20 pieces in the exhibition because there are 20 cigarrettes in a pack. Originally the series was to be called "20 Class A Pieces" but the title never did sit well with me, since it was vague and skirted the issue of obsession. I used to give my work flowery titles, and I may again in the future, but now I feel a need to be blunt in expressing my thoughts.

This site is not a repeat of the catalog, but a notebook of thoughts about the work and my work in general.
