Joel and I were talking about stuff. Nothing big, just stuff. He said something stupid, so I jumped on the chance and picked on him. He was a little ticked off, so he used a generic stale comeback, which had absolutely no effect. I told him that, and he asked me how to change, so that he could have funny and cutting comebacks as if I was some sort of expert. I then gave him several examples, but he was just getting more discouraged because they were all about him and he didn't see the humor. So instead, I started talking to Andrew, who was sitting beside Joel. We talked about how Andrew's computer always builds little boxes that protrude from the walls all around his house. It causes the interior to be constantly changing, and it really upsets his mom. We decided that it was because he has a Packard Bell.

Our conversation was interrupted by the voice of Coach Kearney. He yelled out "Get your stuff on and meet on the field." That is when I realized I was on the Middle School football team bus. No wonder I was wearing a football uniform. I put on my shoes and got all my equipment ready and got off the bus. When I actually got a look at the place, a hopeless feeling instantly took over my body. It was a barren flatland, and there was no sign of a football field anywhere. I walked several hundred feet to the west through the blowing dust when I came upon an old shack. I walked inside, and Mr. Novell, the linemen coach, was sitting on a stool in the corner. He said "Why did you come here? It's not cold out!!" I thought about it, and I didn't know why I came to that shack. It didn't occur to me that the reason I went to the shack was because that was the only thing I had seen in several minutes that wasn't a rock. So I turned around and left the shack and walked south for a while. Soon I came upon a slight downhill slope where I found the rest of the team lying down and stretching. I stepped over a lot of people searching for Andrew, because I thought of the solution to his problem. I finally found him and before I could say anything, Joel came up to me and said "Why are you wearing mittens?" I looked at my hands, and to my surprise I had put on mittens instead of receivers' gloves. Oops. In my fit of embarrassment I fled for the bus.
