2000 Great 8 Winter Games a Success

The Great 8 Winter Games were held on February 20, 2000 at Kingsford, Michigan. With a wide variety of activities for the students to participate in, chess was one that attracted a large number of participants. There were 20 students in grades 4 to 8 that played in the unrated chess tournament while their parents watched the action. The Ceterski family directed the tournament by splitting it up into separate sections. All of the students had an excellent time. None of the students had to worry about providing equipment since all of the equipment was provided by the Dickinson County Chess Club. Medals were provided by the Community Schools for first though fifth place in each grade. Therefore, most of the students received an award plus were able to enjoy a day of exciting chess.
