It all started with the US KRH86 NYC Reunion ...
Imported yan!

I recently read an article in a newsletter from CMSV that was written by a Filipino student.  He talks about how his Lola would say, "Imported yan!" implying how certain products were more desirable in her opinion.  He tells of how she would take the keys off of the cans of Carne Norte, and throw them away, keeping only one for those special days when she would cook this highly prized food.

I laughed over that, the story actually describes my own grandmother, who did take the keys off of those cans of corned beef, and kept one on her key ring.

What is an imported product?  From what I remember in my Social Studies classes in HS, it's anything brought into a country from another country. Now that I'm in the US...

Last week, one of my friends came back from the Philippines.  I had one of my sorority sisters drop off a shirt for me at my friend's house.  It's XL, yun lang, Filipina size.  Even my friend's maid had said, "Pambata ba?"  when she first saw it. Well, it's motivation for me the slim down.  Besides, imported yan!

Last Saturday, we picked up Marius from the airport.  Ooooh, the long awaited gourmet tuyo!  He even threw in some yema, dried mango, and Boy Bawang. *grin* This afternoon, with newly cooked rice, I pulled out a few a few pieces of fish and drizzled the oil over my rice.  Mmmm... imported yan!

About ten hours before Marius arrived, Nick's Tita had just arrived from the Philippines, too, sans luggage.  She connected in LAX, but not her baggage.  It arrived more than a full day after she did.   We have our doubts over the siopao she brought though, so that's on hold.  After church today, she gave us a bag of assorted Lucky Me noodles, my kids' favorite.  Guess what they had for lunch? Imported yan! (Yes, I know you can buy these noodles from any Filipino or Asian Mart, but hey, it tastes better when their Lola sends it over).

*Sigh* I'm going to work tomorrow. As exciting as it is to finally see the KRH86 stuff from the July reunion (whoo-hoo!), I'm not as excited as that to go back to work (:P). I had the stuff sent to my place of work, because I have yet to ever receive a package delivered to me at home the first time, since I'm never there when they deliver it. Well, tomorrow's the day to get that CD. Imported yan! From UP pa!

*Crunch* I sit back now, *crunch* enjoying a treat *crunch* some how uniquely *crunch* Filipino *crunch* It's salty. *crunch* It's garlicky. *crunch* It's MSG-y. *tak tak tak* Most of all, imported yan! (Where's the soda?)
