So she went to the very tip top of a very tall mountain, and
called out to the air, "Please! Come talk with me! I want to be your
friend!"

And there was a great howling and blowing of wind, and a voice
like the moaning of the wind in a storm said "Why do you want to be
friends with me, little Silver?"

"Because I am lonely, and am in need of a friend. And I
thought, I shall make freinds with the air, for the air is everywhere,
and then I will never be alone." replied Silver, rather loudly to be
heard over the howling and moaning.

"And why should I be friends with you?" moaned the wind.

"I thought you were probably lonely too. You spend all your
time among clouds and mountaintops, cold and unfriendly places. And
you race so fast from one place to another, never holding still long
enough to really make a friend."

The howling and moaning fell silent, and the air was still,
except for the occasional breeze. Silver waited patiently, using the
time to smooth her dress and fix her hair, which had gotten quite
messy during the howling and blowing of the wind.

Finally there came an answer, on a whisper as loud as a
thunderclap. "Yes...I have been feeling lonely and I do need a friend.

So the two became friends. It has hard at first, with Silver
always running to catch up to Air's speed, and never knowing where Air
would lead her or when Air would decide to suddenly leave. But
eventually, Silver learned to keep up, and learned to understand how
Air behaved according to the shape of the land and the weather.

After a while, she became tired of running, and decided that
it was time to make friends with Water.
