In June and July each year two very significant celebrations of freedom are acknowledged by Texans. Do you know what they are? No? Then the following is a MUST read for you.

JUNETEENTH
Called EMANCIPATION DAY in Texas, June 19 is celebrated in honor of the emancipation of the slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. Other parts of the Deep South also hold this day in memory as the day in 1865 when Union General Granger proclaimed the slaves of Texas free.

FOURTH OF JULY
Called INDEPENDENCE DAY, the US commemorates adoption of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Also known as the nation's birthday.
