THE DISTANCE TO MY HEART
by: Bob Bearden aka Thon_
For if I saw her from a afar
upon some hill a shout away,
I might have thought her, as a star,
beyond the reach and hope of me.
And brushed her memory from my mind
Like things we seek but never find.
Yet if my first view was too near
I saw the covers, not the book
or thought her maybe only fair
and never gave that second look.
So that my heart would never swell
from knowing all that book could tell.
Though undeserved, it came around
despite my clumsy way of things
We met as friends, on common ground
and grew from there as oak tree rings
To measure truly from the start
the perfect distance to my heart.
